Direct Resin Bonding - Internal Layering Technique

Adhesive bonding procedures have grown increasingly predictable, enabling more clinicians to place direct resin restorations.  Supporting them in this goal of providing conservative dentistry are new adhesive materials and resin formulations with advantageous handling and strength properties. Once the shade of the tooth has been determined and the tooth has been properly prepared and conditioned, an internal resin layering process can be used by the clinician to restore the patient's tooth to a functional and aesthetic result.

*Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Iowa School of Dentistry, Iowa City, IA.

Learning Objectives:

This video demonstrates a predictable direct technique for the aesthetic layering of composite resin in the anterior maxilla.  Upon viewing this presentation, the viewer should:

  • Have a better understanding of the methods used to properly contour resin materials in the clinical environment.
  • Be familiar with the handling characteristics of the resin materials involved in direct resin restorations in the aesthetic region.
